Tina was sent back to the United States in 2017, and Tina was retired. That’s when Matt realized how much he missed her unique connection with him. So, when he went home to see his family again, one of the first things on his mind was to find Tina. Matthew discovered that there is an organization called K9 Hero Haven based in Herndon, Pennsylvania that adopts and places retired military canines.

Anne Gibbs’ dogs, run by Anne Gibbs, have reached out to about 200 working canines since 2015. Matthew’s efforts were successful, and a huge reunion was scheduled soon. Matthew was nervous as the camera and flashing lights lit up the room.

“I’m hoping she remembers me. That’s what I’m aiming for ,” Kropp said to WNEP.

But it was Tina who remembered him, and how! She ran up to him and gave him a lot of face licks and belly rubs. Matthew has officially adopted Tina as a family pet, and his wife and two children are overjoyed!

This was the ideal Christmas present for Matthew, who will be returning to Iraq in a few weeks! Tina is doing very well in her retirement. K9 Hero Haven remains grateful to Matthew and his family, and they wish them continued success with their honorable deeds.
